TEACHING

 PHILOSOPHY

I believe that art education is essential to developing creative, confident, and thoughtful individuals. My teaching philosophy concentrates on fostering a classroom environment where students feel safe to explore, take risks, and express their unique perspectives. Art is not only about technical skill, but also about problem-solving, critical thinking, and personal voice.

My classroom:

  • Emphasize process over product. I encourage experimentation, reflection, and growth, helping students understand that mistakes are a valuable part of learning. By introducing a variety of materials, techniques, and historical and contemporary artists, I aim to make art accessible and meaningful to all learners, regardless of their experience level.

  • Committed to inclusive teaching practices that honor diverse backgrounds, cultures, and abilities. I differentiate instruction to meet students where they are, providing multiple entry points for success and encouraging each student to develop their own artistic identity.

  • Believes in connecting art to the wider world. Through discussions, critiques, and interdisciplinary projects, students learn to analyze visual culture and understand the role of art in society. My goal is to inspire lifelong creativity, curiosity, and appreciation for the arts.
